Subclinical Macular Edema Detected by Spectral-domain Optical Coherence Tomography (SD-OCT) in HLA-B27 Positive Anterior Uveitis
نویسنده
چکیده
PURPOSE To assess foveal thickness by spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) during acute anterior uveitis (AAU) in HLA-B27 patients. METHODS Foveal thickness was measured at baseline and after clinical resolution of the uveitis. Data of the affected eyes of 11 patients were compared to those of a fellow, healthy eyes and to those of counterpart volunteers. RESULTS At baseline mean foveal thickness was 190 ± 28 µm in affected eyes, 166 ± 20 µm in fellow eyes (p < 0.001), and 162±14 µm in control group (p = 0.01). On the second OCT evaluation, no significant change was observed in affected eyes while the difference versus fellow eyes and control group remained statistically significant. CONCLUSIONS A significant increase in foveal thickness was observed in eyes with HLA -B27 AAU when compared with healthy eyes. The difference persisted for at least one month, despite full clinical and functional recovery.

Bilateral macular thickening in mild unilateral anterior uveitis: is HLA-B27 involved?
BACKGROUND Macular thickening (MT) without clinically recognized macular edema has been described in anterior uveitis (AU). Although fellow-eyes of patients have been used as controls in several studies, little is known about macular thickness in these eyes. We studied the rate and extent of MT in both AU-affected and quiescent fellow-eyes of phakic AU patients with good visual acuity (VA). We ...

PURPOSE To determine the utility of logarithmic transformation of spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (logSD-OCT) retinal thickness data for assessment of clinically meaningful changes in uveitis-associated macular edema. METHODS Patients with noninfectious uveitis-associated macular edema at our institution between August 2010 and March 2011 were identified. Only those with SD-OCT i...
متن کاملRetinal and choroidal thickness measurements using spectral domain optical coherence tomography in anterior and intermediate uveitis
BACKGROUND Macular edema is a common cause of visual loss at uveitic patients. The aim of our study was to investigate retinal and choroidal thickness at the macula in anterior (AU) and intermediate (IMU) uveitis and in healthy individuals using spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT). METHODS Case-control study of 21 patients with AU and 23 patients with IMU and 34 age-matched ...
متن کاملCorrelation between fluorescein angiography and spectral-domain optical coherence tomography in the diagnosis of cystoid macular edema.
AIMS To compare the ability to detect cystoid macular edema (CME) and its late complications between spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) and fluorescein angiography (FA). METHODS Retrospective, observational, case series. 85 Eyes who had FA and SD-OCT performed on the same day at first visit and/or at follow-up visits were included. FA and SD-OCT images were evaluated for th...
متن کاملComparison of Macular Thickness in Diabetic Macular Edema Using Spectral-Domain Optical Coherence Tomography and Time-Domain Optical Coherence Tomography
Purpose. To compare the macular thicknesses in diabetic macular edema (DME) measured with spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) and time-domain (TD) OCT. Patients and Methods. The average macular thicknesses of 50 eyes of 29 patients with DME were measured using SD-OCT and TD-OCT. Results. The mean macular thicknesses measured with TD-OCT and SD-OCT were 401.5 ± 117.8 μm (mean ±...
